The Aerospace Product Line: Aircraft
The manufacture of aircraft has traditionally been the largest area of industry activity. In 2006, sales of aircraft accounted for approximately half of the industrys total sales.
The U.S. aerospace industry produces a broad variety of military aircraft, including tactical fighters and fighter bombers, long-range strategic bombers, military transports, electronic interceptors, trainers, helicopters, and unmanned aerial vehicles.
Additionally the aerospace industry builds many models of narrow-body (single aisle) and wide-body (two-aisle) commercial aircraft. The industry also produces general aviation aircraft, a category that embraces large and medium-size corporate aircraft, small commuter airliners, air taxis, agricultural aircraft, light planes for private flying, and civil helicopters for police, ambulance, and patrol service.
